DESCRIPTION: M. Bentwe, in Wien, Austrian bracket clock with calendar and moon phase 56 hour time and quarter strike crown verge movement in hard wood case with silvered chapter ring and unusual north wind brass spandrels and mock pendulum aperture, c1750, chain fusee for time train, backplate engraved in the English manner.
CONDITION: the front door and the base are replacements and newer reinforcement has been relieved to accommodate pendulum swing. The case is in the usual Austrian style, probably ebonized originally, now stripped down to its mahogany colored base. This three train clock at one time had an English style pull quarter repeat, those pieces missing & no longer operational. The movement brackets are new; wooden shims added to stabilize movement. Overall, this is a good looking 18th century clock with restorations. Note the movement with heavy balluster pillars and robust construction. Ht 20"
